Yali

Also going by the name of Vyala, most commonly depicted as a lion’s body, a horse’s head and tusks of an elephant. The personification of natural forces and a symbol of strength and vigilance most commonly seen carved into pillars in temples all across Southern India. Motifs are also used in art and woven into fabric to protect the wearer. In pillars they are used to mark entrances, stand as guards, protecting the temples from threats. Unlike many of our other folklore creatures the Yali comes in many forms and personalities ranging from terrifying to more whimsical. A few of those include:

The Nara Yali, with a human head the protector is dharma and knowledge, representing victory over evil.

The Mesha Yali has the head of a sheep with a string of pearls in its mouth symbolizing purity, strength and sacrifice.

The Sarpa Yali, a symbol of mortality, has the head of a snake associated with guardianship and revenge.

While each color has its own specific recipe every skein is individually hand dyed and hand painted which may cause colors to vary in distribution.
If using more than one skein in a project I recommend alternating skeins.
